Private Coastal Reserve
where horses from film productions are retired and rescued

from growing up in the rugged coastal mountains around Monterey, to his first TV and film westerns, Clint Eastwood identified with the majestic, powerful, gentle horses on set
unhappy with how the animals were treated, he started buying, rescuing, even horse-thievin’ them, as he could, to give them a life of dignity & safety

Private Collection
He keeps his personal memorabilia in a restored barn on the property, like this vintage 1950’s saddle from his stint as “Rowdy Yates” on Rawhide. The barn & contents are not open to the public, just as the sanctuary is not, to protect these irreplaceable items (and animals)
Over 200 Horses
Call Sweetwater Ranch home at any given time. Since some have been severely abused their stay with us can be short, but we make certain they are as healthy as can be until their human death. Most are rehabbed, forming new herds and families. We live daily the cycles of life and nature
